A Partnership. A Five-Year Commitment to the Children of Mukuni Village, Zambia. Year One goal of $55,555!
This November, Lights Out Volleyball will travel to the Mukuni Village, near Livingstone and Victoria Falls, for our FIRST-EVER service trip to Africa! Together with our partners at Glenview Community Church, we’re expanding our humanitarian movement by launching LOV X AFRICA. This is the start of a five-year commitment to the children of of Mukuni to keep coming back, listen to what the community needs, and make a lasting impact. Working alongside the community, schools, leaders, and our partner, our goal is to create change and #SharetheLOV through sport, learning, prevention, and human connection. ❤️🔥🌍

Why we show up. Mukuni is home to about 7,000 Leya people, led by Chief Mukuni, with students from preschool through secondary school. In Zambia’s Southern Province, home to Mukuni, 45% of women aged 20–24 were married before age 18 (UNICEF data via childmarriagedata.org, 2018). Poverty, early marriage, alcohol, and drugs can cut young lives off from school and opportunity. We believe access creates opportunity, and impact grows with consistency!
Working hand-in-hand with the Mukuni community, schools, and leaders, here’s what we’re building together:
🏐Power of Sport: Volleyball courts, permanent nets, volleyballs, and coaching for girls’ and boys’ teams, giving young people safe, joyful spaces to play, grow, and build confidence!
🌱The Way of LOV: Life skills, breathwork, and mentorship rooted in the Way of LOV, helping young people discover what’s possible.
🛡️Healthy Futures: Prevention workshops on alcohol and drug abuse that equip youth to make healthy choices.
📚Learning: Classroom teaching, school supplies, and learning materials to support students and teachers!
🤝Community: Other needs identified alongside local leaders, plus travel, housing, and meals for the LOV team.
